National Stupid Criminal Day
There really needs to be a real, official holiday. We can call it “NSCD” for short. A day where we all have a moment of silence for the idiocy of some people.
Today, while browsing my usual online news websites, I came across a story that made me want to simultaneously laugh, and cry. Laugh, because it’s kind of (ashamedly) funny. Cry, because this person and I belong to the same human race.
Timothy Welsh, a 44 year old Arizona resident, was arrested today for allegedly using a permanent marker - yes, folks, a Sharpie - to change the “3″ and “9″ on his car’s license plate so he could speed through intersections and not be caught by the photo radar.
Instead of having two speeding tickets mailed directly to him, they were instead mailed to another Phoenix man, who’s license plate really DID contain two “8″s. This other man called the police department and complained that he was receiving speeding tickets - but that he hadn’t been speeding, nor was it his car in the photos. Upon further investigation of the photos taken by the radar detectors, Scottsdale AZ Sgt. Jim Butera noticed the driver flipping off - yes, flipping off - the camera.
After doing some searching, they finally located Mr. Welsh, who admitted to everything, although he didn’t think it was really all that big of a deal.
I’ll bet he thinks it’s a bit more of a big deal now…Rather than pay $175 in speeding tickets, he now owes a $1500 fine and could be facing up to a year in prison.
Like I said…laugh, and cry. Welcome to America.

And I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren’t for you meddling kids!
Tim :: Here’s a tip. When you’re breaking the law, don’t flip off law enforcement. It tends to make your case not quite so solid.
I was reminded yesterday of the guy who was getting administered a sobriety test by the side of the road when a major wreck happened on the other side of the road. The officer told him to stay put while he went over to check on the accident, but of course as soon as he walked away, the guy jumped in the car and sped home. When he got there he told his wife to tell the police if they came by that he had been inside sick with the flu all day. Later that day, the police did come by, and his dutiful wife told them that he’d been in bed with the flu all day and hadn’t been driving anywhere. They asked if they could check the garage and she agreed. They opened the garage door and found the police car sitting there with its lights still on.
I guess drunkenness is an excuse for being stupid - but what’s the excuse for drunkenness?
LMAO! Yeah, cops may like birds, but they strongly dislike “Thee” bird. I hope that guy goes to jail. Let’s make an example of him, shall we? lol I learn new uses for Sharpie’s every day!
Steve :: Wow, that is……special. He stole the COP CAR??. How dumb can you be…regarding his excuse of drunkenness, like I always say, there’s always a reason, but rarely an excuse…!
Corrina :: Did you know I got “carded” once at Walmart, for buying Sharpies? It was in OK, also…apparently kids were buying them to sniff so they wanted to make sure you were old enough to be buying them, or something. I would love to have a snapshot of my face when the clerk said, “Can I see your ID for these?”
A fifty-cent rifle cartridge tends to cure that kind of stupidity rather abruptly, and permanently. As resources become more scarce, and society becomes less tolerant of mindless criminals, I think the death penalty will be invoked more and more for lesser crimes, to the betterment of society as a whole.
Marvin :: Haha…very true…but…do you think society is becoming less tolerant, or ultimately more tolerant…?
OMG - you called it, sistah. How stupid can one get?
But I bet if you did this regularly (or even started a new meme?!) - we’d see LOTS more stuff.
lol - hey - when you get a chance, drop by the new place? Would LOVE to see you over there
Dette :: Not a bad idea. A meme: Share your favorite “stupid criminal” story!
Headed to check out the new place now!!
I think people are becoming more apathetic, which is not to be confused with tolerance. People are very intolerant of things which affect THEM in particular. So eventually the problem will become so bad that a trigger point will be reached, after which it will be open season on miscreants of all sorts. The problem is that the trigger point will probably coincide with the collapse of society, brought on perhaps by scarcity of food, or fuel/electricity. Oh well, a good housecleaning will be in order, regardless of the cause.
Hey, thanks for putting me on your blogroll! I think that’s some sort of a record. I will have to do the same, if I haven’t already. I can’t remember.
Marvin :: Haha, some good points…perhaps we should just create a new Moon Colony or something. I’ve always wanted to visit the Moon.
And, no problem! My pleasure!
Wot a dweeb!
Jenny :: And that’s being nice!!
Oh my, how I love stupid criminals. They bring levity to my life in so many ways. LOL
Leigh :: Tell me about it. I feel smarter reading about them!!
